Mayor Acceptance Speech - 14th May 2015

Councillors and Friends,

It is a great honour for me to be your Chairman and the Mayor of Sandhurst.

It is my intention to perform my duties to the best of my ability.

I ask for your support in performing my duties and for your patience if you consider protocol is not correct.

As a councillor I have made many new friends.  As your Mayor the workload is going to be a steep learning curve, but I trust with all your goodwill and friendship, my term of office will be enjoyable.

I thank Pauline for her assistance and guidance as to the protocol expected of a Mayor.  My telephone has been busy today.  I am also now the proud custodian of a 200 plus page book on protocol.  Good bedtime reading!

Pauline your term as Mayor has been excellent and everybody present wishes you every success in your new role as a Borough Councillor.

A number of former Town Councillors for various reasons have retired.  We wish them all well and hope to see them again in the very near future.  This has meant that we can welcome several new councillors, bringing new ideas to our committees.  Like me, you will be able to call on the established members for advice, particularly Dale Birch who has so many years of experiences.

The next few years are going to see many financial and political changes in the United Kingdom, which will almost certainly mean changes in the Borough and the Town.  It is important that we all work together to maintain and improve the Sandhurst Pride image to the outside public.

Stephen, since you came to Sandhurst you and your team have already re-shaped our council to continue building on past successes.  All the councillors and myself look forward to your return from maternity leave.  You have one Mayor and twenty-three further councillors who need you!

Councillor Philip Wallington
